“Prepare + then surrender. You do not need to learn how to give birth.

You already know how.

This journey is not about learning but, one of remembering"

my story

I have been walking alongside women in this capacity for 4 incredible years. The majority of women I have worked with have been first time mothers (and lots of birthkeeper mamas) birthing their babies outside of the system, at home, freely, undisturbed + in power.

My work has brought me to speak on birth panels on stages, hold healing spaces + work in spaces such as the holistic midwives yurt alongside incredible midwives at both Glastonbury festival + Medicine festival.

I have been interviewed on podcasts, hosted my own podcast which landed in the top 10 downloaded podcasts in 2021. My work has initiated me + moved me deeper to myself + my truth. This work is in my blood + bones and it is ever unfolding with each birth I witness.

After 9 months of wild pregnancy, I birthed my first son in May 2023. A canvas between us and the elements on the land where we live with only my partner present. It was a journey which was primal, joyous, powerful + humbling.

Through my own birth my faith in women + birth deepened + expanded. What an honour it is to be called to this work.

What is a birthkeeper + What is my Ethos?

During the times of community living when a woman would begin to labour, the medicine women, the magas (the wise female elders) + sisters from from the village would be called upon to gather into the warmth + darkness of the birth room to support the birthing mother as she journeyed into the birth portal. Working intuitively only stepping into assist, when needed.

As they protected the birth space, they would silently light fires, heat water + gather towels. These woman would bring plants for medicine, oils + balms for healing touch + soft words for comfort. Holding fierce trust, empathy + wisdom they’d sit in gentle silence drinking tea whilst being ‘with woman’ to encourage her, support her, listen to her, care for her. To energetically + spiritually hold the space and above all, believe in her + the wisdom of her body + baby as she journeyed through the rite of passage from maiden to mother.

The women from the village would watch in awe as the birthing woman powerfully transitioned from maiden to mother in the primal messiness of birth, seeing her in all of her wild, raw beauty as she travelled up to the stars to collect her baby + bring them safely back to the earth, taking her place within her matriarchal line surrounded by loving support.

For me, the workings of a birthkeeper is intrinsically weaved into these ways of being within the birth space. The birthkeepers are the carriers of the ancient practices being weaved into the modern world.

This is what a birthkeeper does.

This is the lost herstory of lay midwifery, now replaced with a medical model, this way of working has now been lost in the abis for many midwives now having to reach goals, follow protocols on a ‘one size fits all’ model, having to tick boxes + report back.

A birthkeeper comes from a lay training of emotional, spiritual, physical + mental support and does not provide medical assistance, medical care or carry out any midwifery/medical processes we see midwives practicing today.

As birthkeeper I support you during pregnancy, birth + post natal to find, seek + understand what is going to be the best option for you + your baby + I encourage you to tap into your intuitive nudges without pressure or judgement to find what is going to be best for you so that you can have the most powerful undisturbed, empowered birth you are capable + deserving of experiencing.

My dream is for all mothers to be deeply nourished + honoured in those tender postpartum months with healingfoods, touch, softness + love - this is a non negotiable woven into my birth support offerings.
